Rotana Sustainability Framework Key Activities • Corporate Sustainability Committee • Maturity Assessment- Hotels Analysis - Benchmarking • Sustainability Corporate Policy- Strategic Framework • Sustainability Program Communication Our Approach Corporate Sustainability Committee With the launch of Sustainability strategy, a corporate Sustainability Committee, consisted of eight corporate vice presidents and chaired by the company COO was formed and is taking tangible steps in furthering the company’s commitment to sustainable development and to oversee the sustainability programme. The Corporate Sustainability Committee function is detailed in “Our governance” section. An initial sustainability awareness workshop was conducted to create a full vision of the programme and to bring the members to a common understanding of our sustainability programme and their role towards it. We also participated in the Capacity Building programme of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group, compromised of a Guidance Handbook, a Sustainability Maturity Assessment Tool, Training and Awareness Courses and Support Services to help us acquire knowledge and to further build on our own in house capacity to manage and report on sustainability. As for the hotels, we have amended the company structure by adding the Environment, Health & Safety positions to our organisational structure: EHS directors, EHS managers and EHS officers. We have appointed 30 EHS team members to manage the EHS and sustainability programmes in the hotels and to report their performances. In April 2012, Rotana announced an expansive sustainability strategy to be implemented at all new and 46 operating hotels, apartments and resorts in the Middle East & Africa. It is a framework that addresses environmental, economical and social sustainability. The programme provides guidance for each property thus enabling them to work towards excellence in sustainability throughout the property’s operations.
