41 Information Technology As an emerging topic in IT management, “Eco friendly IT” practices are drawing high interest among our hotels , as well as suppliers, manufacturers and service providers that we deal with on daily basis. With the growing body of evidence demonstrating the potential return on investment resulting from adopting Green IT approaches, a big focus in our 2013 | 2014 IT strategy is on implementing innovative solutions that reduce our utility bills and make our procurement practices more responsible. We are also implementing technologies that massively reduce the space we occupy in our data centers and power required to operate and cool these systems. Rotana is considering the Green IT aspects in Data Center operation and design, implementing guides for Rotana DC (Data Center) & RPC (Rotana Private Cloud) energy efficiency plans. Additional to the traditional energy efficiency methods, RPC design includes the latest energy efficiency methods in the industry such as: • DRS, Dynamic Resources Schedule • Thin Provisioning Storage • Virtual Appliances Energy Unit 2011 2012 2012* Total Energy from Non Renewable Sources MJ 1,443,668,192 1,418,199,202 1,755,449,052 Direct MJ 180,943,322 188,065,365 370,155,877 Indirect MJ 1,262,724,870 1,230,133,837 1,138,972,482 Total Energy from Renewable Sources MJ 1,004,932 1,028,855 1,028,855 Total Energy per Occupied Room MJ 548.7 545.8 577 Total Electricity Consumed MJ 68.8% 69.6% 64.8 % Total Natural Gas Consumed % 6.6% 6.6% 6.2 % Total Fuel Consumed % 5.8% 6.6% 14.8 % Total Energy Saved % 16,043,090 40,132,904 40,132,904 * Total number of rooms sold 2,630,956 2,597,960 3,039,040 * Figures include the five additional hotels opened in 2012 Information Technology Unit 2011 2012 Number of Printers Reduced/ Eliminated # 34 186 Number of Servers Reduced in Data Centers # 5 72 The Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi, has implemented many initiatives in the laundry such as changing washing machine to environmentally friendly with water saving impact, using new low temperature chemical for saving water, compacting shift timing to reduce LPG gas consumption and using automatic dosing unit for washing chemical.
