Rotana Corporate Sustainability Report 2012

100% of our hotels have implemented the “Voluntary guests Towels and Bed Sheets Reuse Programme”, to reduce water, chemical and energy consumption. Water Although the threat of water risk is not immediate, we fully recognise the gravity of the issue and the importance of developing a long term plan in response to the water challenge. Water is crucial to our operations, notably to the cleaning and the production of food and energy. Rotana has a goal to reduce water consumption, in terms of both total water consumption and water consumption per occupied room. A water conservation and reduction programme was developed to reduce water consumption in our hotels, including improved efficiency of water use and minimisation of water wastage that includes: • Analysing and reporting the monthly amount of water consumed and its cost. • Conducting water audits to identify activities and areas that cause high consumption and potential areas of water savings. • Undertaking a cost benefits analysis to determine which water conservation measures meet the business needs. • Developing and providing awareness training and information for colleagues and guests • Relaunching Rotana Guest Voluntary Towels and Bed Sheets Reuse Programme. • Installing water-efficient fixtures in more than 60% of our hotels. • Optimisation of laundries operation. • Conducting water audits to identify activities and areas that cause high consumption and potential areas of water savings. • Analysing the Installation projects for Water Recycling System and Sewage treatment plants. We use around 15% ground water for our operation, however, we do not affect any water source significantly i.e. endangering its sustainability. All water waste is directed to the public sewage company in the country of operation. No significant water spills were noticed during the reported period.
