Key Issues: • Contribution • Economic development • Nationalisation Our hotels and colleagues passionately contribute to achieving our social and economical objectives: • By maximizing financial returns to our shareholders by optimising our operational efficiency and reducing risks and liabilities through sustainable business planning. • By contributing to the society we work and live in by supporting local community needs and promoting sustainability and the cultural values of our society. • By contributing to local and national economic development through local employment and the promotion and growth of sustainable tourism. Contribution The communities in which we operate provide the resources, infrastructure and markets that support our businesses. It is to our mutual benefit and responsibility to seek enhancing them. A key element to a strong engagement with local communities is to understand their expectations and needs. We are looking to further enhance our community engagement programme, and, therefore we have analysed our 2011 and 2012 activities: • To identify where our contributions were going and to analyse the public benefits from our activities. • To define the needs of the communities where we operate and to better orient our activities to support specific causes. • To develop an action plans and engagement programmes for all hotels to apply. In 2012, 96% of our hotels have participated in operations with implemented local community engagement. The number of activities has more than doubled from 84 in 2011 to 195 in 2012 and focused on the following areas: • Health • Poverty & hunger • Environment • Education Contributions Unit 2011 2012 Company Monetary Donations USD 138,000* 250,000* * Cash monetary donations only; Other forms of in kind contributions and colleagues volunteerism hours were not calculated for 2012. Earth Hour On 31st March 2012. 50% of our hotels celebrated the EARTH HOUR 2012 and raised awareness towards the need to save the Earth. Our participation also served as a kickoff to a year full of activities relevant to nurturing a healty and sustainability earth.
