Local employment: 80% of our colleagues in non-GCC countries are recruited from the local country’s workforce. 547 (5% of total workforce) are senior managers (General Managers and grade 1 department head positions). 42% of products governed by corporate agree- ments or corporate price understanding are manufactured or packaged locally in the UAE. USD 520 million was paid during 2016 and 2017 to our suppliers and contactors in the countries where we operate, contributing to boosting their country’s local economy. Community Outreach Our hotels partner with governments, national and local organisations in the country of operation to improving health, youth and child education and development, support of poverty and people in need, projects in developing countries, promoting health care, supporting children with certain sicknesses, people with certain disabilities and their reintegration in the society, as well as international aid and development including disaster relief. Over the last two years, Rotana’s community initiatives have expanded even more to touch the lives of hundreds of people through year- round community engagement programmes, fundraising initiatives and other activities. We reach out to the communities in which we work and live, helping numerous healthcare, educational, environmental and charitable efforts to enrich our lives and the lives of others. We have a vision to work for the greater good outside of our daily activities - it is in our culture to contribute and give back to society. In 2016 and 2017, our colleagues across all operations contributed 23,501 volunteering hours of community service. The percentage of participating colleagues in 2017 was 27.1%.
